“This Prayer Changes Everything When You’re at Your Lowest”

The Sword and the Cross

Daily devotion that cuts through lies and commands truth.

Psalm 109:26

“Help me, O Lord my God! Oh, save me according to Your mercy.”

This is not a casual cry. This is a desperate plea from the depths of the human heart—Help me, O Lord my God! The psalmist does not call upon his own strength, his own wisdom, or his own righteousness. He calls upon the Lord, because he knows there is no salvation apart from Him.

The world will tell you to depend on yourself, to rely on your own ability to climb out of the pit. But this verse exposes the lie. We cannot save ourselves. Only God, by His mercy, can rescue us. His salvation is not something we earn, not something we bargain for—it is given according to His mercy, His unfailing love.

That mercy found its greatest expression on the Cross, where Jesus bore the punishment we deserved. When you cry out, “Help me, O Lord my God!” you are not speaking into silence. You are calling upon the same God who split the sea, toppled giants, and raised His Son from the dead.

So here is the question: Will you keep trying to save yourself with empty strength, or will you surrender to the mercy of the Lord who saves?

Today I will not trust in myself. I will call upon the Lord, and I will live in His mercy that never fails.
