2. Off-target effects: The delivery systems used in gene therapy may not always deliver the genetic material exclusively to the intended target cells. There is a risk of unintended genetic modifications in healthy cells, which may lead to adverse effects or the development of cancer.

3. Overactive gene expression: If the therapeutic gene is expressed too strongly or for an extended period, it could lead to excessive production of proteins or other cellular components, potentially causing unforeseen complications or affecting normal cell functioning.

This raises ethical questions related to the selection and alteration of specific genetic traits and the potential for unintended consequences or discrimination.

It is essential to note that extensive research and stringent safety protocols are in place to minimize these risks. Regulatory bodies, such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), closely evaluate and monitor gene therapy trials to ensure patient safety. The potential risks associated with gene therapy drugs highlight the importance of responsible research, robust clinical trials, and ongoing safety assessments.
