Joe Biden, aged 80, was spotted being assisted down the stairs of a New York City restaurant on Sunday by his daughter Ashley Biden.

The former Vice President is in town for the annual United Nations General Assembly and attended a family birthday dinner at Il Cantinori with Dr. Jill for Hunter’s daughter Finnegan. Hunter Biden was not seen by reporters present.

Video posted by the Associated Press’ Aamer Madhani depicts Joe Biden, with Secret Service agents in his vicinity, exiting Il Cantinori while Ashley holds his left hand.

She guides him down one step before he stops to converse with an unidentified person. Subsequently, Ashley escorts him to the sidewalk, with someone out of view providing assistance by taking hold of his right hand.

Doug Mills, the preeminent photographer for the New York Times, captured the moment:

A Reuters photo of the moment, published by the Daily Mail, captured President Biden leaving a restaurant with his daughter Ashley Biden, 42.

They were accompanied by bodyguards around 8pm on Sunday evening and reportedly received a standing ovation from fellow diners at Il Cantinori.

According to a pool report, some people also cheered from nearby apartment buildings.

The Daily Mail charitably said Ashley “tenderly led” her father out of the restaurant.

Earlier Sunday, Biden was observed taking the fourteen baby steps up and down Air Force One for the trip to New York City, as reported by Agence France-Presse reporter Danny Kemp.
